Burning Crusade Classic - price for character clone reduced to $15

Players who want to play a character in both Burning Crusade Classic and World of Warcraft Classic must create a so-called character clone from May 19, after the pre-patch has been released. Because first you have to decide whether characters move to an era server (Classic) or stay where they are to start a new adventure in Outland. Cloning is a paid service, similar to a server transfer, for example. So far the price for it was 35.00 euros!

Players were angry at the $35 USD price tag Blizzard slapped onto the service as it only covered one character resulting in players needed to spend a lot of money just to keep their characters on both servers.

Along with the other microtransactions coming to TBC, players were not happy with such a high price.

But after backlash from the community with big names like Asmongold speaking out about the paid service, describing it as “milking” players out of their money, Blizzard has had to rethink its strategy.

“A lower price will likely still accomplish our goals with the new service, while allowing many more players to explore the option of players characters on both Classic Era and Burning Crusade Classic realms,” Blizzard said.

In a post on the World of Warcraft Classic forums, community manager Kaivax announced the change in pricing, lowering the cost of cloning your character to use on both WoW Classic's vanilla servers as well as the upcoming Burning Crusade Classic servers from $35 down to $15.

Classic players welcome the more reasonable price, however, some players are still worried about the introduction of microtransactions into the classic version of the game.

A reminder that all Auction Houses on classic servers will be going down tonight as Blizzard prepares for the character cloning service and pre-patch launch returning on May 18th after weekly maintenance.

The TBC pre-patch is scheduled to launch on Tuesday, May 18. It will introduce the Blood Elf race to the Horde and Draenei to the Alliance as well as a paid level 58 boost leading up to the grand opening of the Dark Portal on June 1.

"As always, we deeply appreciate the passion and thoughtfulness of the WoW community. We play WoW alongside you, and we can’t wait to join you next week on Classic Era realms, in the Burning Crusade Classic pre-patch, and as we step through the Dark Portal with you in June."
